Grand Opening January 24, 2009

A native of Guadalajara, Mexico, Raul Macias founded Anahuak Youth Sports Association in 1997 to give children in communities close to the Los Angeles River in Northeast Los Angeles opportunities to succeed through soccer. Under Raul’s direction, today, more than 2,000 boys and girls ages 5-17 and their families and friends participate in Anahuak’s education, health and environmental programs and promote positive change in their neighborhoods.

The Raul Macias Futsal Court is more than just a fun place to play soccer. It is a friend to the environment. Rain water on the fields is collected in a cistern and used to water the native plants in the L.A. River Center and Garden. The “soil” on the field is made from recycled Nike shoes. The turf does not need watering, pesticides or fertilizers that pollute the environment, and saves 200,000 gallons of water each year.

The Raul Macias Futsal Court is the result of a creative partnership that includes Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, Mountains Recreation & Conservation Authority, Nike, L.A. 84, and Cal South.

Making the dream of the Raul Macias Futsal Court come true has been years in the making. Robbie LaBelle of Nike met Robert Garcia of The City Project around 1994, when Robbie was Captain of the UCLA soccer team and a member of the USA national team. Robbie coached Robert’s son – and Robert – in soccer. After graduating with a degree in Environmental Studies, Robbie worked at The City Project as Director of the PLAYS Project (Parks for L.A. Youth Soccer). Robbie and Robert met Raul Macias when the three were advocating for places to play around 2000. The City Project represented Anahuak for years in the advocacy and litigation to create what is now Rio de Los Angeles State Park as part of the greening of the Los Angeles River. Robbie later joined Nike, and now serves on The City Project Board of Directors. Raul and Miguel Luna from Anahuak, Robbie, and Robert began the conversation with Joe Edmiston and Barbara Romero from SMMC and MRCA, Patrick Escobar from L.A. 84, and Alicia Procello from Nike that resulted in the creation of the Raul Macias Futsal Court. The Court is on the site of the abandoned tennis court at the L.A. River Center, which is the result of SMMC and MRCA working with the community to convert the old Lawry’s restaurant into a center of the community.

La comunidad de Cypres Park celebró la Gran Apertura de la Cancha de Mini-Soccer Raúl Macías en el LA River Center and Garden el 24 de enero de 2009. Originario de Guadalajara, Mexico, Raúl Macías fundó la Asociación Deportiva Juvenil Anahuak en 1997 para darle a los niños de las comunidades cercanas del río de Los Angeles en el noreste de Los Ángeles la oportunidad de triunfar a través del fútbol. Actualmente y bajo la dirección de Raúl, más de 2,000 niños y niñas de 5 a 17 años de edad junto a familiares y amigos participan en programas de educación, salud y ambiente de Anahuak y promueven cambios positivos en sus comunidades. La cancha de mini-soccer Raúl Macías es algo más que un lugar para jugar al fútbol, es tambien una amiga del medio ambiente. El agua de lluvia que allí cae, es recogida en una cisterna para regar las plantas nativas del LA River Center and Garden. La cancha esta hecha de las suelas recicladas de los zapatos de tenis Nike. El césped artificial no necesita de riego, fertilizantes o pesticidas que contaminan el medio ambiente y ahorra 200,000 galones de agua cada año.
La cancha Raúl Macías está en el sitio de la cancha abandonada de tenis del LA River Center and Garden y es el resultado de trabajo del Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy y Mountains Recreation Conservancy Authority, Nike, L.A. 84, Anahuak, The City Project, Cal South, y otros trabajando con la comunidad, para convertir el antiguo restaurante Lawry en un centro comunitario. USA 2010 winter trip: inmigrant worker

Immigration is "natural" selective process that historically has sustained United States: the Netherlanders, Germans, Englands, opened the west, they cultivated fields of wheat and oats, exploded mines. Now Latinoamericans work in industry and services. To this country come the entrepreneurs, those who are willing to work, it’s not a land of lazy peoples.
Latinoamericans not only come to work hard, mostly, but also improve their education quickly, without going any further the mere fact of learning a new language together a new culture is an achievement, basic and entry, a true educational achievement.
The difficulties that surround the immigration, and the learnings that it implies it, turns into a very highly selective process.

Un inmigrante cansado despues de su día de trabajo, duerme en el bus de regreso a casa.

Los inmigrantes han sido el soporte histórico de Estados Unidos. Los inmigrantes ingleses, alemanes, holandeses, abrieron el territorio, plantaron sus campos de trigo, avena, explotaron sus minas. A este país llegan los empeñosos, los dispuestos a trabajar duro. No es tierra para flojos. Hoy los latinoamericanos no sólo llegan a trabajar duro, en su gran mayoría, sino que también mejoran rapidamente su educación, el tener que aprender el idioma inglés ya es un logro educativo destacable, unido al aprendizaje de una nueva cultura.
Las dificultades que rodean la inmigración y los aprendizajes que implica, la convierten en un proceso muy selectivo.

Was ist eine Frau, was ein Charakter? Pedro Almodóvar experimentiert mit dem Körper

Almodovar sollte sein Hirn unbedingt der Wissenschaft vermachen, denn für die Vernetzung von Ratio und Emotion muss es in seinem Kopf eine sechsspurige Autobahn geben, die zu einem Kongresszentrum der Phantasie führt. "La piel que habitol / Die Haut, in der ich lebe" ist sein neuer Film, den er in Cannes im Wettbewerb zeigte – und er hat ihn vollgepackt mit Einfällen und Gedankengängen. Es geht um einen traurigen Frankenstein und sein wunderschönes Monster. Ein Horrorthriller, sagt Almodovar – spannend wie ein Thriller ist "La piel que habito" allemal, der Schrecken aber ist subtil. Wenn Almodovar Bösewichter zeichnet, haben sie immer noch ein menschliches Antlitz.
Antonio Banderas, dessen Karriere in den Achtzigern bei Almodovar begann, spielt den Schönheitschirurgen Robert, der, nachdem er Frau und Tochter verloren hat, eine unverwundbare Frau sich erschafft, die er ohne Angst lieben kann. Wie oft bei Almodovar steckt "La piel que habito" voller Zitate, von Hitchcock über "Arsen und Spitzenhäubchen" bis zu Aldrichs "Vera Cruz", und er streift dabei von einem Gedanken zum nächsten: Genetik und Schönheitschirurgie und die Frage, wie sehr der Mensch von seinem Körper bestimmt ist. Was genau formt einen’Charakter, und was macht eine Frau aus – der Körper, die Honnone, die Definition, die sich selbst wählt? Mit Yoga, hört Vera in einer Fernsehsendung, reicht man an etwas im Inneren heran, dass unzerstörbar ist. Ein Augenblick des leisen Horrors: Sie fängt gleich an zu üben.

Finalmente el nuevo filme de Pedro Almodóvar, llegará a los cines españoles el 2 de septiembre. Aunque inicialmente su estreno estaba previsto para marzo de 2011, finalmente el productor Agustín Almodóvar ha afirmado que el estreno se atrasa al 2 de septiembre de 2011, como reacción al fracaso de la nueva Ley de Propiedad Intelectual (más conocida como "Ley Sinde"). Según Agustín, "lo que ha pasado en las últimas horas nos obliga a una nueva estrategia con nuestro nuevo trabajo, La piel que habito. Retrasaremos a otoño su estreno, por primera vez, y como si fuéramos una major americana -que no lo somos- lo haremos a la vez en todo el mundo. Y eso es, para nosotros, un desastre. Pero no nos queda otro remedio." [2] De este proyecto, Almodóvar dice: «Me ha atrapado La piel que habito, un material muy nuevo a todo lo anterior porque me ha pillado en pleno cambio. Me veo como una persona de mediana edad que, como no quise celebrar los cuarenta, cuando llegué a los cincuenta tuve que pasar la crisis de las dos décadas». Según sus palabras, «Es una historia durísima de venganza, con chicos y chicas y un personaje muy diabólico que me está costando ponerme en su piel». También ha declarado que esta película es un ‘intenso drama que a veces se inclina por el noir, a veces por la ciencia ficción y otras por el terror’. Hace apenas un mes, al término del rodaje de La piel que habito, el director declaró que sus películas siempre han sido ‘difíciles de clasificar en cuanto a género’. ‘Suelo mezclar varios y cuando hay uno que predomina no respeto todas las reglas’, explicó el cineasta.
Aunque en diversas ocasiones Pedro Almodóvar había afirmado [3] que contaba con Penélope Cruz para este proyecto, finalmente contará con Elena Anaya,[4] a quien acompañará Antonio Banderas, el cual encarnará el papel de cirujano sin escrúpulos. Almodóvar asegura que retratará una situación límite que afecta a dos personajes y que será una película de terror, pero sin gritos ni sustos.
Según la revista Variety este proyecto es la adaptación cinematográfica de la novela Tarántula (de Thierry Jonquet) publicada en 1995 y, tras años escribiendo diferentes versiones (tal y como pasó con La mala educación), Pedro Almodóvar finalmente ha decidido rodarla.
El rodaje de la película incluyó localidades gallegas como Santiago de Compostela o el Pazo de Oca (La Estrada).

The Skin I Live In is an upcoming Spanish film directed by Pedro Almodóvar, starring Antonio Banderas and Elena Anaya. It is scheduled to premiere In Competition at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.
PlotBased on Thierry Jonquet’s novel Tarantula, The Skin I Live In tells the story of a surgeon who tries to save the life of his wife by creating a new skin.[2] Almodóvar describes the film as "a horror story without screams or frights".

Production
Pedro Almodóvar first announced the film project in 2002. He originally envisioned Antonio Banderas and Penélope Cruz in the film’s two leading roles, but eventually settled on Banderas and Elena Anaya.[4] The Skin I Live In was the first film Almodóvar and Banderas made together in 21 years. The film was produced through El Deseo for a budget of ten million euros.[2] Principal photography started on 23 August 2010 and ended almost four months later. Filming locations included Santiago de Compostela, Madrid and a country house outside Toledo.
Release
Due to changes in the industry of film distribution, El Deseo decided to abandon their previous strategy for Almodóvar’s works. The films had in the past usually been released in the spring in regular Spanish theatres and internationally during the last quarter of the year. The Skin I Live In will however be released worldwide in the autumn. The preliminary Spanish release date is 2 September 2011.[5] The film will be released in a limited North American release on 18 November the same year through Sony Pictures Classics.
