It really has been a while since the announcement of Nokia N9, even though it hasn’t been available yet, for most people, would rather wait-and-see than put into practice. As N9 is akin to N8 published last year, a lot of users may show concern in this. At this time, I am going to do a very simple contrast to this pair of mobile phones. If you appreciate N9, you may like it more after this contrast; if you don’t, now you’re able to realize why.
The Nokia N9 was announced on June 21, 2011 at the Nokia Connection event in Singapore. The phone is presumed to be offered to the public in September 2011.
The Nokia N8 was made available at the official Nokia Online Store on 23 September 2010 and was published in select areas on 1 October 2010.
Appearance
N9 and N8 are really like in the overall look. N9 doesn’t have any keys on the front and a unibody design and style with a 3. 9-inch (99 mm) curved touchscreen display with a resolution of 854 × 480 pixel. Its polycarbonate casing comes in three colors, cyan, black and magenta.
N8 provides a 3. 5″ Active-matrix OLED display screen with capacitive touch with 640 × 360 pixels, its anodised aluminium monocoque case in silver white, dark grey, orange, blue, green and pink.
Hardware
The Nokia N9 is powered by a Texas Instruments OMAP 3630 which is a System-on-a-chip based upon a 45 nanometer CMOS process.
The Nokia N9 features either a 16 or 64 GB eMMC (mass storage memory) and 512 MB NAND (ROM) non-removable storage. Added storage is not supported.
The Nokia N8 is powered by a 772 MHz downclocked to 680 MHz ARM11 processor, possesses 256 MB RAM and a 16 GB internal memory, and MicroSD memory card slot, hot swappable, up to 32 GB.
Video
N8 and N9 have a relatively huge display screen, they are also great on video recording, if you have ever used a video converter for your video record, here they may be still beneficial. N9 is capable of video recording at up to 720p at 30 fps with stereo sound, support MP4, 3GP, WMV, AVI, FLV, etc.
N8 is ideal for Video capture in 720p 25 frame/s with codecs H. 264, support MPEG4, WMV, DIVX, etc.
Software
The operating-system may be the largest difference bettween them. The Nokia N9 is a smartphone manufactured by Nokia based on the MeeGo » Harmattan» mobile operating system, the first and last – as publicly stated- MeeGo smartphone from Nokia.
The N8 is the first Nokia smartphone device to run on the Symbian^3 os.
So much for this simple contrast, if I have more time, I would like to do a more comparison between these two products.
