In nowhere in the world do beauty pageants become such a great obsession like in Colombia, a country located in the northwest of South America. In this neighboring country of Venezuela-the nation of beauties, Beauty contests are considered a part of the culture. Hardly a day goes by without a pageant honoring a town, an organization and even a plant. Even the prison system holds its own beauty contests. Though the Miss does not receive early release, she is happy to be honored. It is estimated that each year there are 400 beauty contests. In some villages, all human activities become idle to totally concentrate on pageants. All the citizens have got mad with beauty contests. Girls of all ages are excited to participate in these contests with the hope that they may one day be honored and have a bright future. In this country of 33 million, beauty is equal to power.
