Seattle, WA (PRWEB) February 11, 2013

Artists Kate Vrijmoet and Holly Ballard Martz, in two distinct stylistic approaches to a common focus THE HUMAN CONDITION, join together for a unique art exhibit at Aljoya Thornton Place at 450 N.E. 100th St. in North Seattle with a reception on Friday, February 15 from 4pm 6pm.

The exhibit is open to the public and runs through May 22, 2013. Advance reservations by calling (206) 306-7920 are required to attend the opening reception.

The idea of waking is what draws Vrijmoets work together. The centerpiece of her work on exhibit is the 6 by 7 And the vacuum cleaner swallows its bag, which but for the title could be seen as a family swimming pool scene viewed from underwater. Metaphorically, the work reads as chaos in the primordial soup or as the moment of waking from a dream or a spiritual birth. In contrast, Martz images are flattened, carefully composed arrangements of allegorical symbols navigating an internal dialogue.

Vrijmoets work has been shown in dozens of publications and exhibitions around the country and internationally, including the 2012 Beijing International Art Biennial at the National Museum of China, the 2010 Ecuador Biennial of Painting Guayaquil where she received a top prize, and in a 2010 solo exhibition at the Center on Contemporary Arts in Seattle. Her published works include New American Paintings 97 and Kate Vrijmoet: Essential Gestures Catalog.

Martz participated in the Artist Trust Edge Professional Development Program, and her works are in the University of Washington Rare Books Collection, the Alexander Gallery in New York, NY, the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plasticas/UNAM in Mexico City, and the Irkutsk Museum of Fine Arts in Russia.

In addition to attending the reception, the artists will give a talk about their works on Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30pm at Aljoya Thornton Place.

Aljoya Thornton Place is the newest addition to Era Living, a private, Seattle-based company of eight premier retirement communities. Aljoya offers the perfect blend of village charm and urban lifestyle set in one of the most desirable continuing care retirement communities anywhere.
