PAMRI Successfully Completes Large Innovative Latin American Physician Clinical Research Training Program

Panama City, Panama (PRWEB) June 06, 2011

PAMRI, an international physician group of clinical trial investigators held, on June 1, 2011, one of the largest GCP outreach program conducted in Panama to date. In partnership, with Colegio Medico de Panama, the Gorgas Institute and CRECS, PAMRI designed, locally promoted and conducted the symposium addressing contemporary clinical research best practices. More than 70 physicians and research professionals attended the research training program held at the Gorgas Institute. Attendees included PAMRI physicians working in the public sector and other research sites throughout Panama.

The symposium featured an internationally recognized faculty. Dr. Nestor Sosa, Director General of the Gorgas Institute and PAMRI principal investigator, led the conference as facilitator and lecturer. Dr. Ruth De Leon, President del Comite de Etica del ICGES presented information on IRB issues; Dr. Rita Trujillo, PAMRI Medical Director, covered many core elements of ICH-GCP; and Dr. Michael Koren, President-Elect of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Investigators offered his perspective on global trends impacting investigators.

The attendance and active audience participation exceeded expectations and confirmed the strong interest among Panamanian investigators in becoming more involved in the growing international movement of clinical trials. One attendee and local lecturer, Dr. Rubiel Nieto noted, My patient population and colleagues have expressed their eagerness to participate in multi-centered and investigator initiated clinical trials. This conference should only increase the momentum.

Dr. Koren commented, Its difficult to get physicians to take time out from their busy schedules to attend a formal GCP training program. The enthusiastic interaction from the local medical community at the program in both Spanish and English demonstrated their commitment to conduct clinical research that meets or exceeds international standards.
