Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria (UTFSM), the Technical University of Federico Santa Maria, is an institution of higher education offering a variety of courses in science and technology. It is territorially the largest university in Chile, with its main campus located in Valparaiso.

Businessman Federico Santa Maria had a vision to help talented students attain a degree to aid with development and progress in Chile. In 1926 the Federico Santa Maria Foundation was created to organize, maintain and develop several engineering and arts and crafts schools throughout the country. In 1932, academic activity commenced at Jose Miguel Carrera School of Arts and Crafts and School of Engineering, renamed in 1935 Universidad Federico Santa Maria.

Programs, which range from engineering and economics to design and civil aeronautics, are offered at campuses across Chile. There are also branches in Vi
